AGENCY DESCRIPTION

The Mayor’s Office of Education provides leadership to improve education in the City of Philadelphia.

To achieve this mission, MOE creates policies and programs to expand access to quality pre-K for Philadelphia families, supports the creation of Community Schools, designed to strengthen local schools by removing barriers to student success, facilitate collaboration and partnership among many stakeholders in order to strengthen the local education landscape, and advances key educational policy.

Job Description

Spend your fall working on the city’s exciting future of education. From partnering with the new School Board to the Mayor’s Office, Mayor’s Office of Education interns work closely with MOE’s communications manager and director to provide a wide variety of communications support for initiatives including Community Schools and PHLpreK

Essential Functions

Tasks include:

  • Crafting and scheduling social media content (including text, images, and graphic design)
  • Assisting with the creation of press releases and digital messaging toolkits to promote events and developments
  • Tracking and sharing MOE-related media clips with the MOE team
  • Researching and drafting talking points for the Chief Education Officer
  • Occasionally attending press and public events with MOE staff

MOE interns have the opportunity to attend monthly City digital working group meeting where topics such as making social media accessible to all and best practices of live tweeting are presented by digital managers. Interns will work closely with MOE’s communications staff, as well as events and special projects staff.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Interns should have a passion for creativity and collaboration, demonstrate ability to write for various contexts and audiences, and be able to work in a fast-paced office with a variety of tasks and priorities. An interest in education is desirable, but not required. There may be opportunities for photography in this internship.

Qualifications

Interns should have an interest in communications, writing, social media, journalism and/or public relations, an interest in education is also preferred, but not required.
